PVC twisted pair wire also known as a copper-core PVC-insulated stranded flexible connecting wire - consists of multiple soft copper strands twisted together. It is commonly referred to as a "twisted pair" in technical contexts and is widely called "flower line" in everyday usage. Nowadays, this type of cable is predominantly used in fire protection systems, which is why it is also referred to as "fire line." In its designation, the letter S indicates twisted construction, R stands for flexible cord, and V denotes PVC (polyvinyl chloride) insulation material.
Application
- Fire Alarm Installations
- Public Address and Sound Systems
- Decorative Fixtures and LED Lighting Applications
Key Features
Primary Application in Fire Safety Systems
RVS cable is predominantly installed in the detection loops of automatic fire alarm control panels, where it serves as the backbone for connecting sensors and initiating devices.
Broad Usage Across Electrical and Audio Equipment
This wire type is also well-suited for powering small domestic appliances, light-duty power tools, instrumentation, and general lighting circuits. Its color-coded variants are assigned to specific functions:
- Double white – directly wired to lamp fixtures.
- Red/blue pair – reserved for fire protection and alarm signaling.
- Red/white pair – commonly deployed in public address and telephone wiring.
- Red/black pair – typically used for broadcast audio runs.

Role in Audio Amplification and Broadcasting
In sound reinforcement systems, RVS cable forms the critical link between amplifiers and downstream audio components. It carries the amplified signal from the power amplifier to speakers throughout the broadcast network, ensuring clear and consistent audio delivery.
Operational Conditions:
1. Insulation Material
The conductor is covered with a PVC (polyvinyl chloride) insulating layer.
2. Construction Type
This cable features a twisted-pair configuration with no outer jacket or protective sheath over the twisted cores.
3. Conductor Composition
The current-carrying element consists of multiple strands of soft annealed bare copper, twisted together for enhanced flexibility.
4. Voltage Rating
It is rated at 300/300V, in accordance with standard 227IEC42.
5. Temperature Limits
Under normal operating conditions, the maximum allowable conductor temperature is 70°C.
